ACF Challenges Matawalle to Reveal Identity of Kidnapping Sponsors and Let Nigerians Be Shocked

Published

The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has said it was stunned by a statement credited to the Zamfara state Governor, Bello Mutawalle, that he knew those behind the kidnap of Jangebe schoolgirls.

Chief Audu Ogbe, National Chairman ACF, in a statement on Tuesday, said the governor was reported in the media to have told 17 Emirs who paid a sympathy visit to him on the kidnap of 317 schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School Jangebe in Talata Mafara, that he knew the identity of the kidnappers.

The Governor was quoted to have said if he revealed their identity, Nigerians would be shocked.

The ACF in the statement asked the governor “to reveal their identity and let Nigerians be shocked or even the heavens fall.”

“We also ask the security agencies to question the governor on the identifies of the criminals he is trying to hide. If he refuses to disclose their identities, he must be treated as an accomplice to the criminal act of kidnapping.”

According to the statement, “the ACF has been embarrassed by the spate of kidnappings especially of school children spreading like wildfire all over the north. People in positions of authority that will help us out of this mess like Governor Mutawalle must stop embarrassing the north and country with careless statements on a serious issue like the kidnappings of school children.”

“Zamfara State and the north are way behind the rest of the country in educational development. The serial kidnappings of school pupils in the north will only worsen a bad and unacceptable state of education in the North,” they said.

My Policy on Fuel Subsidy Removal Yielding Desired Results, Says Tinubu

Published

on

President Bola Tinubu has declared that his fuel subsidy removal policy is yielding the desired results, pointing out that prices are gradually declining.

The President also asserted that investors are increasingly showing interest in the Nigerian economy, a development he attributed to the removal of fuel subsidies, a policy introduced on 29th May 2023.

Tinubu made these remarks on Monday while inaugurating the National Youth Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Addressing the youths, Tinubu emphasised that while politicians will always be politicians, true leadership is about fostering development that benefits future generations.

He urged Nigerian youths to take advantage of the opportunities being created by the government, particularly in the ICT sector, to contribute to national development.

Tinubu said: “I have listened to you. Today is not for long speeches. I just want to reassure you that you are the hope of this country. Everything rests on your shoulders. Every decision I have taken is about you and the future.

“When we removed the fuel subsidy, we were securing a future for generations yet unborn. Where is the investment? Where is the infrastructure? When you hear many professionals say they want to ‘JAPA’, it is because prosperity is not widespread at home. If we create opportunities and empower our people, they will have no reason to leave.

“This is your country to develop, build, and prosper in. The government is fully committed to you. Take this seriously. You can criticise politicians all you want, but ultimately, politics is about development and securing a future for the next generation.

“At the beginning, it seemed uncertain, difficult, and even hopeless. It felt like drawing water from a dry well. But today, the economy is turning a corner. Prices are falling, confidence in our economy is improving, and investors are showing interest. Technology is advancing, and you have opportunities before you.”

The President reminded the youths that they have a crucial role in advancing the nation’s development.

“It is all in your hands. My role is to help navigate, push, and implement key programmes to clear the path for you. But it is up to you to seize the moment. Look me in the eye and tell me what you think—whether it is right or wrong—and offer suggestions. We will consider them as long as they contribute to the prosperity of this country.

“I assure you that we will do everything possible to make Nigeria a better place for you, but we cannot do it alone. You represent over 60 per cent of our population. You are the heartbeat of our nation, and I hope you take this opportunity very seriously,” he said.

Finally, El-Rufai Dumps APC, Joins SDP

Published

on

The immediate-past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufa’i, has resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress and defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

In a statement he issued on Monday, El-Rufai expressed his disappointment with the APC’s leadership style, accusing the leadership of the party of straying from the progressive ideals of its founding members.

At this point in my political journey, I have come to the conclusion that I must seek another political platform for the pursuit of the progressive values I cherish. I have now decided to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).https://t.co/31zBvVPkQf

— Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai (@elrufai) March 10, 2025.

He disclosed that he had expressed concerns both privately and publicly over the party’s trajectory in the past two years, but found no willingness among the current leadership to address the issues.

The former governor said: “Developments in the last two years on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the State.

“At this point in my political journey, I have come to the conclusion that I must seek another political platform for the pursuit of the progressive values I cherish.

“My eight-year tenure in Kaduna State was devoted to implementing progressive policies to advance human development. These records count for little in the current APC that has castrated its organs and treated its membership with contempt in the last two years, I find this no longer acceptable.”

El-Rufai said he submitted his resignation letter to his ward in Kaduna North Local Government Area of the North-West state.

He described the SDP as the platform for his future political engagements even as he called on his supporters and other concerned Nigerians to join him in the SDP, emphasising the need for a unified democratic platform to challenge the APC in future elections.

Abacha Family Slams Babangida, Says Book a ‘Revisionist Narratives’, Distortion of Facts

Published

on

The family of the late General Sani Abacha has rebuffed claims made by former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, that the late Abacha was responsible for the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

In his recently launched autobiography, A Journey in Service, Babangida expressed regret over the annulment, acknowledging that the Social Democratic Party’s candidate, MKO Abiola, won the election.

Describing the annulment as an “accident of history,” IBB blamed military officers led by Abacha, who was then his Chief of Defence Staff, for the controversial decision, alleging that it was done “without his permission.”

Reacting in a Sunday statement signed by his son, Mohammed Abacha, the late dictator’s family dismissed IBB’s claims, insisting that Abacha was neither the Head of State nor the Commander-in-Chief at the time of the annulment.

The family accused Babangida of attempting to distort historical facts and shift blame.

“The decision to annul the election was made under the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida, who, as the then Head of State, held absolute executive powers and was solely responsible for the actions of his government,” the statement read.

“Any attempt to shift this blame onto General Sani Abacha, who was a very senior military officer within the regime, is a deliberate distortion of historical facts. For years, various actors have attempted to rewrite the history of that critical period in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.”

The Abacha family also urged Nigerians to be cautious of what they termed “revisionist narratives” intended to manipulate public perception for political gain.

“We urge Nigerians to be wary of revisionist narratives that seek to manipulate public perception for personal or political reasons.

“The memory of our late father and leader, General Sani Abacha, must not be tarnished by baseless accusations meant to absolve those who were truly responsible,” the statement continued.

In conclusion, the family slammed Babangida’s autobiography for failing to present an honest account of events, stating, “We regret that A Journey in Service missed the opportunity and failed to make history as a truthful and objective account of past events.

“As one public commentator aptly put it, honesty, sincerity, and integrity are virtues not commonly associated with the author.”
