Gov Sanwo-Olu Celebrates First Lady at 65

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has celebrated Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as she clocks 65, describing her as a “compassionate and strong-willed” leader whose influence continues to resonate across the country.

In a congratulatory message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday, praised Tinubu for her contributions to public service both in Lagos and nationally, noting her record as Lagos First Lady for eight years and as a three-term senator.

“On behalf of my adorable wife, Ibijoke, the government and the entire people of Lagos State, I heartily congratulate Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady and the wife of our leader and President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on the occasion of her 65th birthday,” the governor said.

He lauded her work through the Renewed Hope Initiative, a pet project of the First Lady, which he said has touched millions of lives since President Bola Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.

According to him, Senator Tinubu has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the lives of women and children, spearheading empowerment programmes and philanthropic projects across the country.

“Senator Oluremi Tinubu is a great ambassador of our dear State. She has served the State passionately as First Lady for eight years and as a member of the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly for three consecutive terms without any blemish,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“We are proud of her achievements in both private and public offices. Her contributions to the development of both Lagos and Nigeria are commendable.

“We celebrate Senator Oluremi Tinubu today and always for her kindness, advocacy for social justice, and philanthropic endeavours,” the release further read.

The governor described the First Lady as “our Amazon” and prayed for her continued strength and good health.

“As our Amazon, Senator Oluremi Tinubu turns 65, I pray for God’s continued guidance and good health for her.

“God will give her more strength and grace to render more service to humanity and our dear country, Nigeria,” he prayed.

In his congratulatory message, Aare Adetola EmmanuelKing described the coronation as “a sacred fulfillment of divine destiny and a powerful confirmation of the timeless heritage of Ibadanland.” He noted that the Olubadan stool is a living symbol of authority and the embodiment of the Ibadan people’s indomitable spirit, collective wisdom, and resilience through the centuries.

“This enthronement is evidence of Your Imperial Majesty’s decades of service, sterling integrity, and selfless leadership. Today, Ibadan has been blessed with a king, a father to all, a custodian of tradition, and a paragon of truth, justice, and peace. Your emergence at this pivotal time assures us that Ibadan’s future is anchored on wisdom, prosperity, and unity,” he declared.

He further emphasized that the new reign marks a new dawn of hope and progress, not only for Ibadanland but also for Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole. He pledged his loyalty and support to His Imperial Majesty, expressing confidence that under his guidance, Ibadan will continue to flourish as a cultural, political, and economic force.

He prayed for divine strength, sound health, and a long, peaceful reign for the monarch. He also urged all sons and daughters of Ibadanland to rally behind their king in unity of purpose.

“Kabiyesi o! Long may you reign in peace, honor, and greatness. May your throne continue to be a fountain of wisdom and a pillar of unity for generations to come,” he concluded.

Rashidi Ladoja Crowned 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland

Former Governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has officially been crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Ladoja received the crown at the Ose Meji Temple in the Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of the state.

He had earlier received the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan.

He is also expected to be formally presented with the staff of office by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Mapo Hall.

Ladoja became Olubadan-designate following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7, 2025.

The colourful installation ceremony attracted hundreds of guests and residents of Ibadan dressed in vibrant attire.

Present at the ceremony are Alaafin Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Ọlaoye; former Ogun State governor Ibikunle Amosun; and the Chief Imam of Ibadan.

Also in attendance are a former governor of Kano, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and a former Osun governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who paid homage to the new king.

There is also a heavy presence of security agents, including operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), alongside personnel from the Nigerian Army, to ensure a hitch-free ceremony.

The Olubadan stool is highly respected for its distinct succession system.
