Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Mercy Aigbe, has opened up on her failed marriage with estranged husband, Lanre Gentry.
Recalls the single mom of two left the hotel owner on grounds of domestic violence.
In a new episode sighted on her Youtube channel, she recounted the terrible experience saying;
“The first time the slap came, it felt like I was dreaming. I wasn’t expecting it and I was shocked beyond words. I didn’t know it was going to happen but it happened. The begging would then come after that. Once a man raises his hand to hit you, he is going to do it over and again. However, because it was my second attempt (at marriage), I was ready to make it work, even with all the violence. I was there hoping and praying. I just wanted a happy home.
“The incident that broke the camel’s back was the one where I almost died. The beating was horrible. People often say actresses don’t want to remain married. Who told them that? (You think) being a celebrity doesn’t make me human? Does (being a celebrity) mean I don’t want to have a happy home? They say actresses are promiscuous but promiscuity is not (the exclusive preserve of) any profession. When mine (break-up) happened, it wasn’t easy because I am a celebrity. I read a lot of things online. Some people even said I made it up. But, nobody can dictate to me how to live my life.”
Aigbe went on to encourage women who are going through the same situation to speak up.
In her words,
“I have been through domestic violence and I came out strong. I would love to see the end of domestic violence in society. It wasn’t easy for me because society always shames one. Everybody believes if one is experiencing domestic violence, one has to be patient as a woman and take it all to remain in one’s husband’s house. A lot of people have lost their lives as a result of domestic violence. And religion is not helping. An assaulted woman could go to her pastor and the cleric would say, ‘Oh madam, you need to keep praying’. Is it until she loses her life?”
‘No Man Belongs to One Woman Alone’
While many people believe in the importance of faithfulness in relationships and often advise against cheating, it appears there are some who maintain that when it comes to men, monogamy is not an option.
One of such people is Onyi Odimegwu. The Nollywood actress stated in a recent post stated that no man belongs to one woman. In a post which she made a day before Valentine’s Day, she advised people not to send her cards, flowers or forwarded messages.
“Some people have started receiving Val gifts, Pls don’t send me flowers,cards or forwarded messages to avoid embarrassment atleaest Send G string if you don’t know what to send it’s better than Audio gift..”
“No man belong to one woman alone, you can’t be good enough for everyone but you will always be the best for the one who deserves you. Remove expectations from people and you’ll remove their power from hurting your feelings.”

‘No Man Wants to Marry a Woman Who Can’t Cook’
Nigerian singer, Jaywon says no man would love to marry a woman who doesn’t know how to cook.
The music star made this known via his Instagram page on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. According to him, even though many men would love to employ cooks and housemaids to take care of their homes, a woman who can take care of the home is paramount.
“How many men can come out proudly and say my wife doesn’t know how to cook or take care of the house? A real hustler will provide for his family and even employ a maid and cook but Naaaaa we are Africans and not just African but proud YORUBA MAN (LOCAL ONE FOR THAT MATTER OO) My wife must sabi cook even if she no go cook all the time but must sabi……… DELETING,” he wrote.
Jaywon’s post is connected to the debate on men getting married to only women who can cook. This conversation rose after the General Overseer of the Redeem Christian Church of God, Pastor Adeboye tweeted about men getting married to only women who can cook.
