Ogunsan Hails Jejeloye’s Proactive Policing, Presents New Operational Vehicles to RRS
The Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has presented three brand new operational vehicles to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos. This is as he received the Commander of the Lagos-owned special force, CSP Shola Jejeloye who paid him a courtesy visit in his office yesterday Friday 16th January 2026. The new RRS operational vehicles continue the spotlight of LSSTF’s ongoing commitment to shore up the capacity of all security agencies in Lagos by providing much-needed security infrastructure, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.
During the courtesy visit, the RRS Commander, Shola Jejeloye expressed profound appreciation to Dr. Ogunsan for his visible leadership and notable achievements since assuming office in November 2025. He described the LSSTF’s support as critical to the operational effectiveness of security agencies in Lagos State, noting that timely provision of logistics significantly enhances rapid response and crime prevention. ‘We don’t have any challenge that will not make us deliver. So we thank you very much for all the support you have rendered to us.’
CSP Jejeloye further appealed to the LSSTF to consider the repair, refurbishment, and rebranding of the RRS’s existing operational vehicles. According to him, such intervention would extend the lifespan of the fleet by more years, improve operational efficiency, and ensure a more consistent security presence across key areas of the state. ‘We are still looking forward to more support. We have some operational vehicles that are not working currently. We want to ensure that what we have we are putting them to active and judicious use.’
In his response, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan reaffirmed the LSSTF’s unwavering support for security agencies and commended the RRS for its professionalism, resilience, and sustained efforts in maintaining peace and order in Lagos. He described the RRS as a critical pillar in the state’s security architecture, ‘RRS is directly under our purview, you are our own Police, it doesn’t make sense if we are doing for others and not for you’, he stated, noting that the impact of RRS is evident in the rapid containment of emergencies and security threats which has improved public confidence.
Dr. Ogunsan assured the Commander that the request for refurbishment and rebranding of existing vehicles would be given due consideration. ‘Any organization that has over 100 vehicles in its fleet will have issues like this. We are thinking of a human capacity workshop where to train operatives of RRS and other security agencies, we are still looking at its workability. For the robust trainings for officers; we will seek your input alongside other senior officers to work on the curriculum and facilitators who are experienced ex-officers. We want to change the narrative of what people think about policing.’
The LSSTF CEO, Ogunsan highly praised the RRS Commander, CSP Jejeloye for his tough stance of best practices. ‘People actually need to study you. You are a principled Police officer, firm and friendly, many don’t see that friendly part of you because you do not know how to compromise on the kind of operations that you do on a daily basis. I appreciate the good things you do and I am happy to work with you. You have done it at the Lagos State Task Force and you are on the right track on this, I will support you.’
Members of the Commander’s entourage included the Station officer, RRS, ASP Oladele Ajayi; Officer in Charge of Communications, RRS, ASP Dipo Olurinde; and Osunmirem Sunday.
Also present at the meeting were the LSSTF Director of Administration, Mr. Degbola Lewis, and the Executive Assistant, LSSTF, Mrs. Adaobi Nwankwo.
A gospel musician, Matthew Ogundele, and three members of his crew, have been found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State.
The other victims were identified as Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and a blogger, Matthew Awosanya, popularly known as JoesTv.
Reports said that the deceased were invited to minister on Tuesday, the second day of a three-day birthday praise programme organised by fellow gospel artiste, Olanireti Akinbola.
Reports quoting a police source said the artistes arrived for the programme in the evening and performed late into the night.
Owing to the late hour, they reportedly decided to stay the night in the studio, where they were later discovered dead the following morning.
“The convener organised a three-day birthday praise which began on Monday. Matthew Ogundele and his crew were billed to minister on Tuesday. The programme lasted late, so they decided to sleep over in the studio. It was the next morning that information filtered in that their lifeless bodies had been found,” the source said.
A Christian blog, Omojesu, also reported the incident in a Facebook post, stating that the victims opted to stay overnight because of the distance between the studio and their homes.
“In pursuit of a better life, a blogger known as JoesMediaTv and three musicians were reportedly invited to perform at a virtual birthday praise event at a studio around Ajah. Due to the distance, they decided to sleep over. Sadly, they were said to have passed away in their sleep,” the post read.
The matter was subsequently reported at the Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, while colleagues and friends of the deceased have taken to social media to demand justice.
Images circulating online show traces of blood around the noses, mouths, and ears of the victims, triggering public concern and speculation over the circumstances of their deaths.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the case was reported on Wednesday by the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, who is also the husband of the celebrant.
According to her, Akinbola told the police that he left the artistes in his studio – located within the HFP Shopping Complex – on Tuesday night after buying food for them while they prepared for a music concert.
“He stated that the artistes returned to the studio with the food while he went home. However, at about 11am on Wednesday, he returned and discovered that the studio door was locked from inside.
“He raised the alarm, and the door was forced open. Upon entry, the lifeless bodies of the four artistes were found inside the studio,” Adebisi said.
She added that detectives immediately visited the scene and documented their findings, noting that no visible signs of violence were observed on the bodies.
“The corpses were taken to the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, where a medical doctor confirmed them dead. They were later deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for autopsy and preservation,” she said.
Adebisi also disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, for comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service has confirmed the death of one of its officers, Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC I) Mustapha Akiyode, who was killed during an ambush by suspected smugglers in Ogun State.
Akiyode was shot in the line of duty in the early hours of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, along the Ilara–Ijoun axis in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area while participating in an anti-smuggling operation.
The Comptroller of FOU Zone A, Gambo Aliyu, disclosed this during his maiden press briefing at the Unit’s headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, describing the incident as a painful loss and a stark reminder of the dangers faced by officers enforcing Nigeria’s borders.
Aliyu said the fallen officer paid the supreme price while defending the country against economic sabotage, adding that the Unit remains resolute despite the tragic incident.
“We lost a brave and committed officer in the course of duty. His sacrifice will not be forgotten, and it strengthens our resolve to intensify the fight against smuggling,” the Comptroller said.
During the briefing, Aliyu unveiled a renewed intelligence-driven anti-smuggling strategy aimed at dismantling smuggling networks, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening border security across the South-West corridor.
He said the strategy, which relies on intelligence gathering, targeted surveillance, and coordinated operations, has already produced significant results within a short period of implementation.
According to him, officers of the Unit intercepted 144 smuggling attempts involving prohibited and uncustomed goods across its area of responsibility.
Items seized include 6,954 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 77 bags of foreign sugar, 21 used vehicles, 3,362 jerrycans of vegetable oil, 20,700 litres of premium motor spirit (PMS), 915 bales of used clothing, and 581 used refrigerator compressors classified as hazardous waste under Nigerian law and international conventions.
Also intercepted was a 20-foot container loaded with stone-coated aluminium roofing sheets.
Aliyu said the seizures reflect the Unit’s renewed determination to disrupt smuggling syndicates and protect the Nigerian economy.
“Upon assumption of duty, I made it clear that we would confront smugglers with renewed vigour, professionalism, and strict adherence to the rule of law and respect for human dignity,” he said.
In a major breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, the Comptroller revealed that the Unit intercepted 3,029 parcels of a synthetic strain of cannabis indica weighing about 1,431 kilograms.
He said the seizure significantly disrupted drug supply routes within the Command’s operational corridor.
Aliyu warned that drug trafficking poses serious threats to national security, noting that proceeds from the illicit trade often fuel banditry, terrorism, and other violent crimes.
“Drug trafficking emboldens criminal elements, erodes societal values, and destabilises the nation. Those involved should abandon this path and embrace legitimate trade, as our resolve to enforce the law remains firm,” he said.
Eight suspects were arrested in connection with the various seizures. The combined Duty Paid Value of the intercepted items was put at N3.31 billion.
In line with inter-agency cooperation, the seized cannabis was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The NDLEA, Aliyu said, commended the Customs Service for its professionalism and assured that the drugs would be disposed of in accordance with legal procedures.
The Comptroller concluded by reaffirming the Unit’s commitment to intelligence-led operations, improved officer safety, and sustained collaboration with sister security agencies to combat smuggling and related crimes.
