Wema Bank Confirms Moruf Oseni As Substantive MD/CEO

Wema Bank Plc has confirmed the appointment of Moruf Oseni as the substantive Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer effective April 1, 2023.

After serving in acting capacity since January 1, 2023, Oseni will be succeeding Ademola Adebise, following approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Oseni’s journey with Wema Bank began in 2012 when he joined as an Executive Director. Before his appointment as MD/CEO, he served as Deputy Managing Director for the last four years, a role where he demonstrated the capacity to lead the bank to even greater heights as it continues to evolve into a financial powerhouse.

With over 25 years of experience, including more than 16 years at senior to executive management levels, Oseni was the MD/CEO of MG Ineso, a principal investment and financial advisory firm. He had also served as Vice President at Renaissance Capital and was an Associate at Schroder Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup Global Markets in London.

Oseni’s credentials speak for themselves, with an MBA from the Institut European d’Administration des Affaires (INSEAD) in France, a Master’s in Finance (MIF) from the London Business School, and a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). He is also an alumnus of the Advanced Management Program (AMP) of the Harvard Business School and King’s College, Lagos.

In addition to Oseni’s appointment, the CBN also approved the appointments of Wole Akinyele as Deputy Managing Director, and Tunde Mabawonku as Executive Director. Wole Akinleye previously served as the Executive Director in charge of Corporate Banking and the South-West Business, while Tunde Mabawonku served as the Bank’s Chief Finance Officer.

The Board is confident that these new appointments will be crucial to the continued transformation and growth of the Bank as it positions itself as a market leader in Nigeria’s banking industry through technology and innovation.

All appointments are effective from April 1, 2023

FirstBank Appoints Segun Alebiosu As New MD/CEO

First Bank of Nigeria has appointed Olusegun Alebiosu as its acting managing director with effect from April 2024.

The Bank stated this in a release signed by its acting company secretary Adewale Arogundade.

Alebiosu takes from Adesola Adeduntan, who resigned abruptly on Saturday with eight months left to complete his tenure in December 2024.

The release stated that “following the resignation of the managing director/CEO of FirstBank, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, the Board of Directors has appointed Olusegun Alebiosu as the acting CEO of the 130-year-old institution.

“The appointment takes effect immediately and is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria.”

The release stated that Alebiosu was until this appointment the executive director, chief risk officer and executive compliance officer since January 2022. Prior to that, he was the Group executive/ chief risk officer, a position he held since 2016.

“Alebiosu brings to the executive management of FirstBank over 28 years’ experience in the banking and financial services industry with cross-functional exposure to Credit risk management, Financial planning and control, Credit and marketing, Trade, Corporate and commercial banking, Agriculture financing, Oil and Gas, Transportation (including Aviation and Shipping) and Project financing.”

It added that the new acting MD/CEO commenced his professional career in 1991 with Oceanic Bank Plc (now EcoBank) and prior to joining FirstBank in 2016 served as Chief Risk Officer at Coronation Merchant Bank Limited, Chief Credit Risk Officer at African Development Bank Group and Group Head, Credit Policy & Deputy Chief Credit Risk Officer at United Bank for Africa Plc.

“He is an alumnus of Harvard School of Government and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management. He also obtained a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos and holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

“He is a member of various professional bodies namely, Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA), Associate, Nigeria Institute of Management (ANIM), Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and Member, Nigeria Institute of International Affairs.”

Police Ministry Celebrates Minister of State, Sulaiman-Ibrahim on Birthday

The Senator Ibrahim Gaidam-led Ministry of Police Affairs has felicitated with the Minister of State, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim as she celebrates her birthday.

In a brief ceremony held in her honour at her office, the Director General, Services, Mrs. Edemanya Ibiloa, presented a birthday cake and signed card on behalf of the management and staff of the Ministry to the Secretary of the Honourable Minister of State at the headquarters in Abuja.

The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) learnt that the Director, who was accompanied to the office of the Minister of State by the Director of Human Resource Management, Mr. Simon Stephen, and Deputy Director of Press, Bolaji Kazeem, stated that it was a special time to remember the Honourable Minister of State, who means so much to the Ministry.

According to her, “You mean so much to so many people for the kind and wonderful person you are and the amazing things you do. May life’s spread blessings be yours all year through”.

She said April 19 is a special day for the Honourable Minister of State and prayed to Almighty God to add more years of happiness, good health, and long life.

Former Abia Gov Ogbonnaya Onu Dies at 72

The first civil governor of Abia State and former Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has been confirmed dead.

According to a source close to the deceased who spoke to the Tribune online on Thursday, the former governor died after a brief illness in an undisclosed hospital in Nigeria.

Recall that the late 72-year-old former governor of old Abia State, during the 2023 general election, contested for the presidential flag of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
