Published

on

The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam has charged the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to equip the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) with both local and foreign sophisticated professional training to enable them to tackle terrorists, kidnappers, and other high crimes in the country.

He made this known during the official briefing of the Honourable Minister and Minister of State on the activities of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) by the Executive Secretary at the Ministry Headquarters in Abuja.

Reacting to funding issues on the professional training for police personnel outside the country, he urged NPTF to ensure that the process of training officers is strictly managed within the available funds rather than jettison necessary training for police personnel.

In his words, “Instead of waiting to send 20 personnel abroad, you can send 10 that can be accommodated within available funds rather than jettison crucial professional training abroad that will impact their output to the nation”.

Gaidam said, “The Executive Secretary and his team should come up with a strategic plan on sending personnel on training outside the country while continuing to patronize local training available in the country. We need to send some of our personnel outside Nigeria to get highly sophisticated training that would enable them to tackle crimes in the country”.

The Minister recalled the problem of Boko Haram that started in Bornu State in 2009 before it spread to Yobe State in 2011 when he was the governor noting that it was not easy then despite the collaboration of both policemen and the military and the need to get well-trained personnel that will deal decisively with terrorists and kidnappers.

In her contributions, the Honourable Minister of State, Police Affairs Hajia Imaan Sulaima-Ibrahim stated that in perfecting statecraft international norms and best practices will be deployed in training and retraining, operations standardized, infrastructure updated, work tools to strengthen the professionalism of security personnel.

In her words, “It has to be standardized and tailored towards what will work for the police ecosystem and our population. It should not be about procurement alone but strategy planning that will focus on professionalism, patriotism, and transparency because our sector is one of the priority plans of Mr. President and it is critical to the National security of the country

Earlier, the Executive Secretary, of Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) Abdullahi Bala Pointed out that all the training programs have been successfully executed and for the Construction and Rehabilitation of Police Offices and Barracks, one hundred and eight (109) projects have been completed (100%), while thirty (30) projects are near completion (70 – 90%), and twenty-eight (28) projects are still on-going (01 – 69%)

He enumerated the challenges of his organization concerning the delay in the Take-Off of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund activities from June 2019 to May 2020; the delay in Annual Budget approval for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund; some inconsistencies in the NPTF Act, 2019 such as the Commencement date; problems of 0.005% Levy and its collection from companies in Nigeria among others.

We Killed Ogun Broadcaster Just to Teach Her a Lesson, Three Suspects Confess

Published

on

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, announced the arrests on Thursday while addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Ojajuni said investigators uncovered the suspects through intelligence-driven operations, technical tracking and forensic investigations launched after the double murder.

Oyesiku and Adetayo were discovered dead at the retired broadcaster’s home in the Owode-Egba area of Ogun State on June 21. Her Lexus RX 330 was also missing from the residence.

The police commissioner said officers at the Owode-Egba Police Station received a report around 4pm on June 21 over unusual developments at the deceased’s residence.

“Preliminary information indicated that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged while the security house within the compound was found locked, prompting immediate police intervention,” Ojajuni said.

He said detectives who arrived at the scene found Adetayo dead inside the security post, while Oyesiku’s body was discovered in the living room of the main building.

“The crime scene was scientifically processed. Preliminary investigation further revealed that a Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased was missing from the compound, raising suspicion of robbery and murder,” he added.

According to Ojajuni, the stolen vehicle was traced and recovered a day later through intelligence and technical tracking efforts.

He said investigators also recovered a handwritten note at the crime scene, which later became a key piece of evidence.

“Although the ignition key had been removed and the registration number plates detached from the vehicle, detectives recovered the vehicle’s registration plate concealed underneath one of the seats, which enabled investigators to positively identify and confirm the vehicle as the property of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku.

“One critical piece of evidence recovered from the scene was a handwritten note apparently left behind by the perpetrators. The note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, which generated valuable investigative leads that significantly aided detectives in identifying and tracing those responsible for the crime,” he stated.

The CP said further intelligence gathering led operatives to arrest the prime suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he worked as a labourer.

He added that subsequent operations resulted in the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

Ojajuni said Philip admitted his involvement in the crime and told investigators that he recruited the two other suspects.

He said, “Further follow-up operations by detectives of the command led to the successful arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho, thereby bringing into custody all identified suspects directly linked to the criminal conspiracy.

“During interrogation, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip made a confessional statement, admitting his involvement in the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku. He further disclosed that he had recruited Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho to participate in the crime.”

The commissioner said Philip told investigators he orchestrated the attack because of grievances he held from the period he worked as a security guard for the deceased.

“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to ‘teach her a lesson,” Ojajuni added.

Ojajuni said the suspects struck on June 20 and first subdued Adetayo before forcing their way into the residence.

“According to the statement, they first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, and used him to gain access to the residence. Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard.

“After committing the crime, the suspects fled the scene with the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle, which was later recovered through intelligence-led and technical tracking operations at the Onikolobo area of Ogun State,” the CP said.

The police commissioner also revealed that detectives recovered several items believed to be linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen.

“Following the suspects’ confessional statements, detectives conducted further searches at locations linked to them. During the operation, a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other relevant exhibits connected to the investigation were recovered,” he said.

Ojajuni noted that despite the confessional statements and evidence already obtained, detectives were still expanding the investigation.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to emphasise that while the suspects have made useful statements and substantial evidence has been recovered in the course of the investigation, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.

“Investigation is ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of all suspects connected with the crime,” he added.

He assured residents that the command would pursue justice for the victims and ensure everyone connected to the killings faces the law.

Mushin Blast a Mechanical Explosion Not a Terrorist or IED Attack – Police

Published

on

The Nigeria Police Force has officially dismissed fears of terrorism, sabotage or an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in connection with the explosion that occurred on June 22, 2026, at No. 19 Way Street, Mushin, Lagos, confirming that the incident was caused by a mechanical failure, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

Addressing journalists today Thursday 25th June, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu disclosed that an extensive forensic and technical investigation conducted by the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit established that the incident was “not caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), terrorist activity, sabotage, or any form of criminal use of explosives.”

According to the Police, initial reports from the scene had raised concerns that the explosion might have been linked to an explosive device, prompting security authorities to activate established protocols and deploy EOD-CBRN specialists for a comprehensive investigation. “The investigation involved a detailed assessment of the affected vehicle, examination of recovered fragments, analysis of damage patterns, collection and evaluation of physical evidence, as well as interviews with relevant witnesses,” the Commissioner stated.

CP Fatai explained that investigators found “no traces of explosive materials, detonators, initiation systems, explosive residues, or blast characteristics ordinarily associated with explosive attacks.”

He further noted that “the affected vehicle did not exhibit the structural deformation, fragmentation patterns, crater effects, or displacement typically observed in incidents involving explosives.”

According to the findings, “the incident resulted from the catastrophic failure of a pressurized mechanical component outside the vehicle,” which triggered a sudden release of energy, shattered the front passenger-side glass panels and caused minor injuries to the occupant.

“Based on these findings, the incident has been professionally classified as a Mechanical Explosion and has been officially reclassified from a suspected IED incident,” he said.

The Police reassured residents that “there is absolutely no evidence linking the incident to terrorism, insurgency, sabotage, or any threat to public safety and security,” adding that “there is no cause for alarm.”

The Command, however, urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities while assuring Lagosians that all security-related incidents would continue to receive thorough professional investigation before conclusions are reached.
